Polish game developer CD Projekt Red announced its partnership with giant e-sports organizer ESL (Electronic Sports League) to make a competitive gaming tournament for the fan fan-favorite card game Gwent. The prize pool is starting out at $100,000.
Gwent is a card game within The Witcher video game universe, and is playable only in the third game, The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt. The card game itself is only a small part of the base game, but fans immediately became attached, prompting CD Projekt Red to begin developing a full separate game dedicated solely to it called Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. The closed beta is receiving positive reception and the full game is announced to be free-to-play.
Now with fans eagerly awaiting the full game, they can get even giddier knowing that soon they can get the chance to win $100,000 playing a card game originally thought to be just a series of side quests.
