DOTA 2

Defense of the Ancients 2 is a free to play online multiplayer battle arena developed by Valve Corporation. More commonly known as DOTA 2, the game has risen to the top of the e-sports scene as the most highly rewarding game platform for competitive players. Since its release in 2013, DOTA 2 has rewarded over $95 million in e-sports tournaments. In 2016 alone, it dished out $37 million.

The gameplay is based around two teams of five battling in an arena to destroy a large structure called the “ancients” defended by the other team. Each player gets to choose from 113 playable heroes, each with four of their own unique abilities. Like every other competitive game, team composition is everything. The game begins with teams on opposite corners of the map at their bases. Then team strategy determines the victor.

DOTA 2 is the largest e-sports platform to date, usually fighting in and out of the top spot with League of Legends and CS:GO. With 7 million monthly users and constant updates, DOTA 2 is a staple in the e-sports industry.
